This article was prepared with AI assistance based on an analysis of the current Lumina Studio source code, existing Wiki content, and relevant workflows. It has been checked against the current version, but omissions or details that become outdated may remain as the software evolves. Unlock Quantize Ceiling

Unlock Quantize Ceiling changes only the maximum value of the Quantize Colors slider. Enabling it does not re-quantize the image and does not raise the current value automatically.

The option is disabled by default.

Location

Open Converter → Core Settings → Advanced Settings, then locate Unlock quantize ceiling.

Unlock Quantize Ceiling in Lumina Studio Advanced Settings

Value ranges

StateQuantize Colors rangeStep
Disabled8–2568
Enabled8–81928

The default quantize value is 48. Enabling the switch keeps the current value; processing changes only after the slider is moved above 256.

When the switch is disabled again, a current value above 256 is immediately clamped back to 256.

Performance impact

Increasing the budget into the hundreds or thousands can significantly increase:

  • clustering and colour-mapping time;
  • memory consumption;
  • the number of recipes that must be solved;
  • the number of colour meshes requested for a high-precision 3D preview;
  • browser rendering and GLB-generation time.

Unlocking is not a mandatory quality step. Effective image colours, final dimensions, nozzle line width, and available recipes still limit useful detail.

Relationship with the 3D preview

The normal 3D preview still uses 128 colour meshes as its default ceiling. To preserve more low-frequency preview colours when Quantize Colors is above 128, also enable High-precision 3D Colour Preview.

Changing the switch or quantize value requires a new preview and model. Lumina recipe cards store the quantize value, but not the separate unlock switch.
